Another busy week in Grade 3!

Language - We're almost done our non-fiction reports. Stop by and look at our bulletin board it looks great! We have also been working on spelling and parts of speech for single and plural nouns.

Math - Geometry is happening here! Angles are everywhere. The students have been learning about right angles. Some have even the grasped the difference between a right, obtuse and acute angle. (way beyond grade 3 knowledge!) GREAT JOB!

Science - We are a little behind on starting our Angry Bird projects because we have been working hard at preparing for our entry to the Hot for Sens contest. This will be filmed on Wednesday. We have been learning about forces and the different types of forces there are.

HOT of SENS

Our class has decided to enter into the HOT for SENS contest. Your child is bringing home a permission form that I would like signed and returned asap. There will be a day next week that I will ask the students to wear red, black and white (wear a SENS jersey!)  and bring in as much SENS fan memorabilia as they can for our video. Here is a link to website for contest details.

Another Busy Week in Grade 3

Hello Folks! So glad the weather has let up a bit. Looks like we can enjoy our outdoor play this week. We have a busy busy busy (did I say BUSY!) week ahead.

Language - we continue to draft, review and revise our Non- Fiction Descriptive Books on a country. The students are learning a tons and I am so pleased with the enthusiasm in this assignment, Should they wish to print pictures out at home, please feel free! We have  also been reading the story Charlotte's Web. We are about half-way through the book and very excited to see what adventures Wilbur & Charlotte are about to embark on.

Math - 2D & 3D Geometry continues to be or focus this week. Ask your child where in their world they see Geometry. We watched a short video today that showed us that Geometry is EVERYWHERE! Our Math Talks will be about money up to $10.00. Please continue to discuss and work on the value of money at home. Have your child make a grocery list with the flyers and see if they can add it up. We will be working on our Angry Bird projects this week as well, combining our Science curriculum on Forces and Math.

Health - We will talking about the importance of sleep this week. We all need it! What health benefits to we gain from getting a good nights sleep?

Religion - This week we will be working on our Fully Alive books. The children will be discussing the importance of our feelings and how God gives us feelings to show that we are all different and alike. Some of us are more sensitive than others and some are more nervous. We should always stop and think about how God would want us to treat people in these situations.

Have a great week! I know we will... Ms. Harrington

A day in Grade 3...

We worked really hard today! The first picture shows us researching for our Non-Fiction Descriptive books. We used Chromebooks and Ipads. Some of us even used plain old fashion Non-Fiction books for our research. (imagine that?! - haha!)

This pictures shows us consolidating a math problem in Geometry using the document camera. We had to figure out which 3D shape had the same number of vertices and faces. Our question was very difficult but we worked it out after a lot of conversation. We ALL had our "aha" moment! Awesome job boys and girls!

Today we talked about the Epiphany

A bright star guided the three kings to the place where Jesus was born. The kings were very happy to see the new baby and they gave him gifts of frankincense, gold and myrrh. On this Epiphany day, we are thankful for the gift God gave us, his Son, Jesus. We are also thankful for the gifts we received and were able to give to others this holiday season. We ask that in the days ahead, we remember others and continue the spirit of giving all year long. Amen

Geometry

We will now be working on two and three dimensional geometry unit for mathematics. The children will have new vocabulary to learn in terms of terminology for this unit. They will also have a lot of opportunities to manipulate models of these shapes in order to develop a better understanding of the attributes each shape holds. We will continue to practice and build numeration strategies throughout the month as well.
