Tomorrow your
child will receive their “Bookworm” reading folder. A space can be filled in
for any twenty minutes of reading. Reading
can be done independently, it can be shared reading or your child can be read
to. They are encouraged to read or experience print in many different ways.
Some examples are picture books, novels, joke books, poetry books, newspaper
articles or comic strips, collector cards, computer reading programs or books
on cd.
For every twenty spaces they fill they
finish a level. For every level they achieve they will receive a certificate.
For every five levels (including completed book reports or responses) your
child will receive a free book. This
reading program will be listed as homework every night Monday through Thursday.
The choice is theirs to either read using books at home or through our new RAZ
Kids account. The Raz Kids account reading will not receive
certificates. I have encouraged the students to do a balance of both Raz Kids
and Bookworm reading (reading from actual books). Naturally, the more reading
experiences for your child, the more proficient the will become in reading.
